About us

The Norwood Lake Association (NLA) is more than just an organization—we are a dedicated community of volunteers, nature lovers, and conservation advocates working together to protect Norwood Lake and the Raquette River area.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, we champion lake conservation, promote recreational activities, and manage the only community recycling center in Northern New York. Our mission is to ensure that Norwood Lake remains a pristine and cherished resource for generations to come.

Joining NLA is free and open to all who are passionate about preserving the lake and strengthening the local community. Whether you’re a long-time resident or a visitor who enjoys the lake, your contribution matters!

Our Mission & Vision

At NLA, we believe in the power of community-driven conservation. Alarming studies from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and National Geographic reveal that freshwater ecosystems are under increasing threat due to pollution, climate change, and invasive species. Moreover, recently, the New York Times has reported that lakes across the U.S. are experiencing unprecedented levels of contamination, impacting biodiversity and local economies. We envision a thriving Norwood Lake, where crystal-clear waters, diverse wildlife, and lively community events create an environment that everyone can enjoy. Our goals include: Protecting and enhancing water quality, monitoring and controlling invasive species like milfoil that threaten not only biodiversity, but also recreational opportunities. Promoting sustainable recreation, ensuring safe and enjoyable lake activities. Community recycling Norwood through events, educational activities, and volunteer opportunities. Our commitment to sustainability and water conservation aligns with this timeless wisdom, ensuring that Norwood Lake remains a source of beauty and life for generations to come.
